Spider-Man Could Show Up In Sony’s ‘Kraven The Hunter’ Movie

Kraven the Hunter writer Richard Wenk has provided new information about the movie and indicates that Spider-Man himself could show up

Looks like Spidey could be showing up in Sony’s upcoming comic book spinoff Kraven the Hunter, at least according to the film’s writer Richard Wenk. Given Venom‘s recent record breaking opening weekend box office result it’s presumed that Sony will be moving forward with further films in its Marvel movie world. Venom fended off unfavourable critic reviews to earn big, and is set to remain No. 1 in its second week of release. Without going into spoilers, the Tom Hardy-led film certainly provided plenty in the way of set up for a sequel, and while we’re sure to see more of Eddie Brock’s story there are a good 1,000+ characters that Sony has the rights to and could adapt for the big screen.

While there’s still some ambiguity surrounding Venom‘s connections to the MCU, the movie’s director Ruben Fleischer has said that he believes a meeting between Venom and Spider-Man is “inevitable”. With the studio now moving ahead with other Spider-Man related projects it seems that a definitive decision needs to be made with regards to whether or not Sony’s Marvel films are in anyway connected to Marvel’s own MCU.

In a recent interview on the Discussing Film podcast, Wenk spilled a fair few details about his Kraven the Hunter script, saying that he’s been looking at the Marvel Comics story Kraven’s Last Hunt and that Kraven will come “face-to-face with Spider-Man”:

“It’s an interesting world, a great character… it’s in the Spider-Man universe. I’m going to adhere very closely to the lore of Kraven the Hunter, and he’s going to come face-to-face with Spider-Man. I think that where we’re all circling is that this is Kraven’s Last Hunt, and whether this is the precursor to that movie, whether it will include it, we’re talking about those things. And even the idea that maybe Kraven could be like Kill Bill, basically a two-part movie. It’s all in the mix”.

Wenk’s statement provides fans with an interesting update on the Kraven movie, but at the same time his comments with regards to involving Spidey directly in the film is the closest thing to a confirmation that Tom Holland’s web-swinging hero does exist in both the MCU and the Sony Marvelverse. The being said, there is always the possibility that Sony will cast a separate Spider-Man for its own cinematic universe, in order to have the character interact with his iconic villains, so as to not impacting its deal with Marvel Studios and Holland’s Spider-Man.

For now, exactly what the wall-crawling hero’s place within the Sony Marvel world is is still not completely clear, but Wenk has certainly reignited the fire of discussion surrounding the subject.
