Earlier today news of Henry Cavill’s departure from his role as Warner Bros and DC Films’ Man of Steel began to make the rounds, causing a lot of confusion and sadness among fans. Having portrayed the iconic hero in three Worlds of DC (formerly known as the DCEU) film titles, the British actor had become quite vocal in his desire to play the part again in a direct sequel to Man of Steel, in which he first appeared as the comic book character.

As if the reports that Cavill had exited the role were not unexpected and confusing enough, his manager then tweeted out a response that teased the actor may still have an opportunity to reprise the part in future, while Warner Bros released a statement in praise of Cavill but avoided the subject of his departure.
Fast forward to now and Cavill himself is stepping into the very public kerfuffle with a new video posted to his own personal Instagram account. The footage shows the 37-year-old wearing a Krypton Lifting Team t-shirt while steadily raising a Superman action figure into view of the camera, with the caption “Today was exciting #Superman”:
So, what could this mean? Is Cavill excited about his action figure? Is he teasing that he will be the Man of Steel again at some stage? At this point it’s hard to tell, but it seems unlikely that he would be posting like this if there wasn’t anymore Superman for him. In the earlier reports, Warner Bros’ planned Supergirl movie seemed to be the main reason for a delay in any Superman projects and that would mean no Worlds of DC work for Cavill for several years to come too. Sources had said that this lead to Cavill pulling out of the conversation for a Man of Steel 2 and unless talks resumed it would be unlikely that he would return. This latest video from Cavill however, along with his manager’s statement, doesn’t fit with that story.
