As the culmination of ten years of successful world-building, and money making, it was always expected that Avengers: Infinity War would do bonkers business at the box office but the latest official figures are now giving us an indication of just how well the movie could do come the end of its theatrical run. Having now opened in most major markets, aside from China and Russia, Avengers 3 is well and truly off to the races having shattered past the the record for highest opening weekend earnings with a domestic take of $258 million. The superhero team-up film pits Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including franchise favourites Iron Man, Captain America and Black Panther, against the Mad Titan Thanos who seeks to bring an end to half of the life in the MCU. Reaching the end of its first week in theatres, tickets for Infinity War are still selling like wildfire and there’s no sign of that slowing down any time soon.

As if Marvel Studios previous film Black Panther hadn’t had enough of an incredible record-breaking cinematic run, the studio’s latest looks set to take on the highest of the highs sat perched in the all-time highest grossing film list. While Infinity War was a title that pretty much sold itself on premise alone its ultimate success would still depend on positive reviews and word of mouth which plays an important part in a movie getting across the $1 billion mark. If a big film is received well enough to have repeat viewing appeal that tends to seal the deal on breaking ten figures when all’s said and done, and with two weeks before the release of Deadpool 2, and little in the way of competition til then, the Avengers have a massive opportunity to grab even more money from our pockets.
The latest report from Deadline confirms that following the release of Avengers: Infinity War‘s Wednesday box office figures the movie has already earned a mighty $857.3 million worldwide, placing that $1 billion milestone well within reach. It’s even predicted that the film will hit $1B this Saturday which would make it the fastest film in history to do it.
The current record belongs to Star Wars: The Force Awakens which made it passed $1B in only 12 days but it looks as though Avengers 3 will be able to reach it in just eight. Infinity has already set the record for the fastest movie to reach $500 million globally which it did miraculously in three days.
Black Panther pushed Marvel’s MCU box office total passed $15 billion (reached in just ten years), and with the franchise’s proven track record and ever-growing popularity the studio is sure to continue raking in the cash for plenty of years to come.
