Chris Hemsworth wants to see his Thor interacting with Wolverine now that the X-Men are to be brought into the MCU.Disney’s recent acquisition of 20th Century Fox and its Marvel comic book properties, including the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, has had many fans shouting from the rooftops in excitement that the beloved characters will become a part of the MCU and be seen onscreen beside the likes of Iron-Man, Spider-Man, Hulk and many others. Disney was quick to announce that the newly regained franchises will indeed be used in the Marvel films rather than go straight to television in a Daredevil-style Netflix series, or something of the like. The one minor quip in all in all of this, however, is that Hugh Jackman hung up his Wolverine claws after last year’s Logan meaning that his dream of sharing the screen with the iconic MCU characters will sadly remain just that.
While Jackman’s Wolverine is arguably the most memorable comic book movie character-actor pairings ever, another staple of the genre in recent years has been Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder, Thor, who more recently received his third solo film that opened to critical and general audience acclaim.
In a conversation with Screen Rant, 34-year-old Hemsworth was asked which of the X-Men or Fantastic Four characters he would most like to see Thor interact with, and it seemed the Adamantium-clad mutant came to his mind pretty instantaneously:
“I mean, Wolverine, just because I love that character, you know what I mean? I just love Hugh Jackman. Unfortunately, he died in the last movie, didn’t he?”
Recent comments from Kevin Feige have indicated that the MCU will be undergoing some big changes after Avengers 4, set for release in 2019, and many of the franchise’s main line-up of actors will be reaching the end of their contracts around that time. Hemsworth, though, seems very keen to continue playing his hammer-wielding Asguardian for another, fourth, Thor movie. Now, with presumably a rebooted X-Men set to join the picture seeing a version of Wolverine, albeit not Jackman’s, could very well be seen paired up with Thor, depending on what directions the writers decide to go.
Hemsworth still seems to be optimistic that Jackman could make a comeback in order for the two established heroes to take each other on:
“We can bring him back to life… Now that you’ve informed me that it’s a possibility I’m going to get on the one phone and try to coax him over or convince him and see if he has one more in him.”
Whether the change in circumstances will be enough to lure Jackman back to the role is uncertain at this point, but one can only imagine that the more noise is made about his return the more likely it will be for him to do so.
