Following the late November release of Avengers: Infinity War‘s first trailer, Marvel’s Studios President Kevin Feige has now confirmed a minor fan theory about the cunning Loki that’s been making the rounds online. Infinity War sees the proper introduction to the MCU‘s villainous mastermind Thanos who will provide Earth’s Mightiest Heroes with the greatest challenge they’ve ever faced, possessing so much power with the Infinity Stones that he could destroy the entire universe if he so wished. One of the Stones, the Space Stone, first showed up in the first Avengers film where it was known as the Tesseract and was an important tool in Loki’s scheme to rule over humanity. During the course of Marvel’s latest title Thor: Ragnarok, there was a scene that hinted that the mischievous Asgardian had taken the Tesseract from Odin’s vault which the Infinity War trailer seemed to confirm.

Loki is perhaps Marvel’s best villain as he is the unpredictable wildcard in its deck, looking as though he’s fighting the good fight one minute, but defecting to side with evil the next. It’s clear his motives are to better his position within the cosmos by cementing higher levels of power and control for himself however he can achieve it. Loki and The God of Thunder have shared some memorable team-up moments over the course of the last two Thor movies, but it seems that the trickster will be joining Thanos’ ranks once again in the epic conflict that’s soon approaching.
The recent Infinity War trailer showed what looked like Loki handing over the Tesseract to Thanos which for many fans was all the indication they needed to think that he will certainly be going back over to the dark side in the movie, and according to Feige’s latest comments they were right to do so.
Thanks to Omelete‘s Twitter post we now know that Feige made an appearance at the Brazil Comic Con Experience, where Marvel Studios had a strong presence, and confirmed that Loki will indeed be aligning with Thanos in Avengers 3.
As previously mentioned, it looks as though Loki may hand the Space Stone (Tesseract) to Thanos in Infinity War but as to what else the Asgardian’s role in the film will ential we have yet to find out more, though it’s likely that he will face-off against Thor much like in the first Avengers movie.
Avengers: Infinity War arrives in cinemas April 27th, 2018.
