With Marvel’s Largest film to date, Avengers: Infinity War (Avengers 3), now less than five months from theatrical release, the studio has unveiled the movie’s first teaser trailer giving fans their biggest look yet at the highly the anticipated MCU title.
Marvel Studios’ continued success in bringing comic book characters and storylines to the masses has seen it right through to achieving its original goal: piecing together an epic ending to the ongoing story that began with the release of the first Iron Man. The most recent film in the series, Thor: Ragnarok, teased things to come, with its director Taika Waititi having been brought in to breathe something new into the franchise stylistically. Raganok‘s positive response and box office performance confirmed that audiences still want to see more from the MCU, and we’ve begun to hear Marvel movie mastermind Kevin Feige talk about the future beyond Avengers 3.
For now however, Infinity War remains the priority with the studio now having put out the movie’s first trailer. Making its debut on GMA, the teaser, which has already reached around half a million views in its first hour, provides a fair bit of insight into what we will see in the upcoming film. The main take-aways from the new footage include seeing a handful of closeup shots of Thanos clutching his Infinity Gauntlet with what appears to be two of the six Infinity stones already embedded in it, Loki holding the tesseract (one of said stones), featured heavily in the first Avengers movie, and a large-scale battle sequence involving Captain America leading hulk, Black Panther, Falcon and many others, including the Wakandan army, against what appears to be a gargantuan alien force.
Official Teaser Trailer:
Avengers 3 certainly looks as though it’s a high stakes round for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes with even the trailer’s opening shot showing planet-wide catastrophe. Franchise main (or main-main) characters Captain America and Iron Man both look weary in leading their respective units in the fight against Thanos and his forces, but newcomers Spider-Man and Wakanda’s Black Panther seem to possess the energy to provide strong support for the two MCU veterans.
The film’s directors Joe and Anthony Russo have spoken about how they plan to tackle a project of such scale namely to place more of a focus on Thanos himself, which makes a lot of sense given that we haven’t seen too much of him in previous titles, but also as a centre-point that legions of other characters can revolve around. Thanos’ motivations will be one of the key points the filmmakers need to make clear and the new teaser actually gives us an indication of the mad titan’s intentions, “Fun isn’t normally something one considers when balancing the universe”, he says, highlighting that his plans are focused on bringing a certain “balance” to the Marvel world, whatever that means.
The trailer leaves fans with much to discuss, and we’re sure there’ll be more information and things that have been missed in the first-round viewing, so be sure to stay tuned for more on Infinity War as it happens.
