This past Sunday saw the debut of the teaser trailer for the sequel to the beloved Disney Pixar animated film The Incredibles, over 13 years since the original was released in theatres. Writer/director Brad Bird was able to craft a warm, family-centred superhero sattire with The Incredibles going on to receive unanimous praise from critics and audiences, performing strongly at the box office and even winning an Oscar. For years, fans were asking for a follow-up, but Bird had insisted that it would not be made until the conditions were right. Then, all of a sudden at last year’s D23 Convention Disney announced that the Incredibles 2 was going into production.
The newly-released teaser seemed to pickup where The Incredibles left off, focusing in on baby Jack Jack’s explosive powers, which were revealed during the course of the original film. No doubt then, the sequel will feature Jack Jack more heavily perhaps even lending a helping hand to the rest of the Parr family in the midst of a fight sequence, or something like that.
Given the soaring success of the first film, it was likely that excitement for the sequel would be high but based on the latest marketing statistics for the film’s marketing, Incredibles 2 could just about be the most highly anticipated movie for 2018. According to EW, the film’s first teaser trailer racked up over 113 million views, and in the span of just.. hours, setting a new record for animated movie trailers.
The upcoming film continues the story of the Parr’s who will once again have to face another dangerous foe that will require the skills of each family member working as a team to defeat. Holly Hunter returns to voice Helen/Elastigirl, Craig T. Nelson will do the same with Bob/Mr. Incredible and Samuel L. Jackson with Lucius/Frozone.
Incredibles 2 is scheduled for release July 13th, 2018.
