Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them was able to capitalise perfectly on the success of the Harry Potter series of films, swapping the legendary boy wizard for a new hero in the form of Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander. Going back into the past, before the events of original story, Fantastic Beasts served to provide fans with a new narrative to follow while also strategically placing some former characters and concepts into the mix just enough to keep somewhat of a link to the octilogy. The film opened in November of 2016 gaining a warm reception and the greenlight for a sequel, or perhaps more, to go into production. The film also re-introduced fans to the powerful wizard Gellert Grindelwald, who was referenced a handful of times in the Potter series, played by none other than Johnny Depp, opening up the potential to explore more of the mysteries surrounding Albus Dumbledore’s former BFF.
Fantastic Beasts laid the groundwork for a multi-picture story following the exploits of Scamander and co., although at this point details surrounding the sequel are scarce with little known about the movie’s plot. What we do know is that the rivalry between Dumbledore and Grindelward will be one of the main features in Fantastic Beasts 2.
With one year to go before the sequel’s release, Warner Bros. has now officially begun to draw back the curtain, revealing the film’s official title, Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald, and uploading an image of the cast, which comes with a first look at Jude Law as the young Dumbledore:
Official Cast Promo:
As he promised he would, Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering more followers to his cause — elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander. The adventure reunites Newt with Tina (Katherine Waterston), Queenie (Alison Sudol) and Jacob (Dan Fogler), but his mission will also test their loyalties as they face new perils in an increasingly dangerous and divided wizarding world.
Fantastic Beasts The Crimes Of Grindelwald opens in cinemas November 16th, 2018.
