Aubrey Plaza rose to the spotlight on the hit comedy TV series Parks and Recreation and was able to land a handful of important roles in Hollywood as a result. Titles such as Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, The To Do List and Life After Beth have allowed the young actress to show off her unique comedic talents, but Plaza’s most recent work in FX’s Marvel based episodic series Legion has the star looking more than capable of handling a range of material beyond just comedy.
Two of Plaza’s most recent big-budget comedies, however, were not well received. Dirty Grandpa and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates ultimately failed to win audiences over, while also being critically panned. The 33-year-old is set to appear in Ingrid Goes West which seems to be more up her street in terms of its dark humour, a speciality of Plaza’s, but the part that she seems to want most is that of Selina Kyle/Catwoman
As part of an AMA session on Reddit, in promotion of her latest movie The Little Hours, Plaza was asked about what film she would most like to be involved with. The actress was quick and clear in her answer stating, “I want to be Catwoman”. This is not the first time Plaza has expressed interest in the role and the sketch by Wee Arts below, drawn in 2014, was done after she had mentioned the part back then:
In the ever expanding, although not yet realised, DCEU Batman roster Catwoman certainly is an interesting character for the Dark Knight to interact with, given her hero/antihero, and at times even villainous, tendencies. She could be teaming up with Batman one minute to protect Gotham and the next joining with Harley Quinn in causing mayhem.
With the Gotham City Sirens movie currently in the works and nothing in the way of casting announcements as of yet, Plaza surely stands a good chance to land her desired role and appear alongside Quinn, Poison Ivy and other female characters from Batman’s rogues gallery.
A Catwoman movie is yet to be announced.
