Following Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, the DC Extended Universe has been gearing itself up for its first Avengners-style team-up event Justice League. With Wonder Woman set to warm audiences up in early June, Justice League will place the heroine, and a certain billionaire bat-obsessed hero, out front an centre, as the two recruit a group of meta-humans to stop a grave threat from beyond our world.

Justice League sees Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) unite in a feature-length film for the first time, much to the excitement of DC Comics fans.
The film’s first teaser trailer, released at San Diego Comic-Con last year, gave us a glimpse at each of the League’s heroes while also hinting that “an attack” was coming from “far away”. Much of the focus was placed on Batman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman, and sure enough that is once again the case with Justice League‘s first full-length trailer – it’s likely that these are the characters the studio believes in the most (in terms of popularity/success).
As far as this first trailer goes, it’s pretty much what we would have expected in terms of content, with the emphasis being placed on the action side of things rather than delving right into the full thickness of the plot. Initially, we get another quick introduction to each of the meta-human main characters on Bruce Wayne’s recruitment list, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg, which he discovered from one of the files on Lex Luthor’s computer in Batman v Superman. Each of the characters get their moment to shine, with the Leaguers taking on hordes of Parademons (DC Comics villain Darkseid’s military); Flash using his superspeed to charge, Aquaman using his Trident to lethal effect and Wonder Woman using her superstrength along with her famous lasso. Cyborg is not quite as heavily featured, and we don’t see too much of him in action which could be due to there being some as-of-yet unfinished CGI work – some of the shots of Cyborg in the trailer are not quite as polished as they could be come the film’s release either.
As the crown jewel of Warner Bros.’ DC movie slate, Batman is featured most prominently in the footage and Justice League will also see the introduction of more of the Dark Knight’s associates, of which we get to see a snippet of a Gotham rooftop scene with J.K. Simmon’s Commissioner Jim Gordon in conversation with him at the end of the trailer. Additionally, Aquaman’s home world of Atlantis will be explored somewhat, with Amber Heard’s Mera making a split second appearance here, and Flash/Barry Allen’s father Henry Allen, played by Billy Crudup, is also shown briefly.
The Justice League will finally “Come Together”, and their first film looks like a fun-filled ride with enough action, and some “rich” humour, to get even the most vocal DC movie critics interested to see the new direction the franchise is headed in.
