In this current period of uncertainty with regards to who will be playing James Bond, 007, in the next film (Bond 25), it still doesn’t look as though an answer is coming any time soon. It must be said that Daniel Craig may very well have another film in him, but at this point it’s really anyone’s guess. In the meantime, we’re left with nothing but speculation, with the public making it clear that they’re keen to see one of either Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston Damian Lewis or, the favourite pick, Tom Hardy take over the role following Craig’s departure.
Tom Hardy has well proven that he has what it takes to be the centrepiece of a major action franchise, following continued success in his career, with top performances in films such as Mad Max: Fury Road (2014), which already a major series lead role for Hardy.
Speaking with The Daily Beast, Hardy shared his thoughts on the prospect of him taking the role, but quickly turned the conversation to promoting Christopher Nolan as a “fantastic” choice to sit in the director’s chair:
“You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one! If I mention it, it’s gone. But Chris Nolan, what a fantastic director for a Bond movie. Because Daniel (Craig) is so good, and what (Sam) Mendes and Barbara (Broccoli) have done has been so impressive, that it would be a very hard re-imagination to follow after. I wonder what the next installment of that franchise would become, and I think when you mention someone like Christopher Nolan, that’s a very powerful figure to bring into that world who could bring something new and create something profound…again.”
Without question, Christopher Nolan would be a fantastic choice for James Bond, seeing how the 46-year-old filmmaker was able to revitalise the gargantuan pop culture figure that is Batman in his Dark Knight Trilogy, there’s little doubt he could do the same for Bond. In addition, bringing both Hardy and Nolan on board would be the ideal move here, as the two have shown time and again that they work very well together, and something of that working relationship seems to lead them to deliver stellar cinematic outings every time.
