Michael Fassbender, Billy Crudup, Katherine Waterston and Danny McBride star in the first full-length trailer for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant.

Following the success of his 1979 sci-fi/horror film Alien, acclaimed director Ridley Scott has continued to bring us new adventures from his Xenomorph alien-infested cinematic world. Having returned to the franchise to helm the Alien prequel Prometheus – which received mixed reviews – Scott is now set for the release of his upcoming 2017 effort Alien: Covenant.

While Neil Blomkamp (Chappie) is still said to be working on the fifth instalment in the Alien series, along with franchise regular Sigourney Weaver, Scott will continue his prequel films with Covenant, which sees the return of Michael Fassbender as android David and it’s also rumoured that Noomi Repace  (Dr Elizabeth Shaw and Guy Pearce (Weyland) will be making appearances. It seems that Scott has opted to take the upcoming film in a more Alien-centric route, following the mixed, if somewhat more negative, reviews and reaction to Prometheus.

The film’s first trailer delivers on all of the series’ signatures, such as creatures busting out of people’s bodies, a naive crew deciding  to head out into an alien world with no idea what they’ll find, and aliens popping up out of nowhere to attack while people are in the middle of showering. Following in The Force Awakens‘ footsteps, the film truly feels like a return to the core of the franchise.

Official Description and Trailer

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

Of course, there will indeed be some changes from previous films with Alien: Covenant, such as the alien threat itself – this time round it’s Neomorphs.
