Musicals are becoming more of a rarity at the movies these days, but fortunately for us Lionsgate and director Damien Chazelle have been on the case, making something truly great. Employing the combined talents of Ryan Gosling (Sebastian) and Emma Stone (Mia), La La Land marking their third outing as on-screen lovers, Chazelle has crafted a visually striking, soundfully stunning film that critics and audiences around the world are raving about.
After the huge success of his 2014 film Whiplash, which received much Academy Award attention, Chazelle continues his journey into both the music and film worlds, fusing them together in a seamless way that we really haven’t seen since the 1930s & 40s. La La Land is a charming throwback to that era, set in present day Los Angeles.
The latest clip from the film shows a portion of one of La La Land‘s many great musical moments. “City Of Stars” sees Sebastian and Mia finally warming to each other’s characters, as their first couple of meetings in the movie are a little hostile.
Official Description and Trailer:
Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.
The new clip demonstrates the movie’s quaint beauty through music, acting and setting very well, with distinctive warm tones and soft easy-listening vocals. Many have tried to say that the film is a love letter to L.A., with its gorgeous backdrops and such, but really its more about dreams – and people who dream. Its message is to pursue your dreams no matter what, which is one of the main factors that will see La La Land become a timeless movie.
