Your Spider sense should be tingling like crazy, because the marketing campaign for Sony’s 2017 superhero reboot Spider-Man: Homecoming has spun into action. After the character’s very successful first appearance in this year’s Captain America: Civil War, new Spider-Man/Peter Parker Tom Holland is off to a flying start. Audiences responded well to the younger, more excitable version of the wall-crawler, who was brought into the MCU’s Civil War dispute by Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man, having seen so much potential in Parker’s abilities. Needless to say Spidey did good, and Stark seems keen to take on the role of Mentor in order that Parker be given the best possible guidance, and gadgets (including new suits), to become the hero we know him to be.
With Homecoming placing the character at a younger age than we’ve seen in previous iterations, it’s likely that the film will incorporate more in-school antics, with Peter struggling to balance his responsibilities as a hero with his life as a teenage high school student who should be focused on studying and spending time with his friends. The new trailer has all of that in there, and, much to the excitement of the fans, it’s therefore safe to assume that this take on the character will be the most faithful to the comics yet.
Add in a little of Tony Stark’s presence, a few shots of Michael Keaton’s Vulture and Spidey taking down some bad guys, and you’ve got a solid first trailer:
As mentioned above, Homecoming mainly focuses on Peter trying navigate the web of his double-sided life, which for Sony and Marvel means building up a character that audiences can relate to.
