Pixar is without doubt one of the most successful creative studios in Hollywood today, but in recent years the animation powerhouse has turned to producing various sequels for its income. Having released Finding Dory this summer to high critical and commercial success, and receiving ever-increasing demand to return to some of its older material, Pixar is getting-going with production on writer/director Brad Bird’s The Incredibles 2 and the fourth instalment of arguably its most popular film series Toy Story, helmed by John Lasseter.

Last year, the studio announced its plans to bring Toy Story 4 to the big screen in June, 2018, with Incredibles 2 scheduled to debut in June of 2019. As both projects have continued their way through early pre-production however, their respective release dates have of course been subject to change leading to the recent news that they have officially swapped places on the calendar.
THR reports that Disney/Pixar have confirmed an accelerated timetable for The Incredibles 2 has led to the change, which fans will be pleased to hear seeing as it’s been over 12 years since the first film opened in cinemas. The movie will now premiere June 15th, 2018, while Toy Story 4 has been pushed back to June 21st, 2019.
Expectations will be high given Pixar’s reputation, and in some ways we’re glad to see that Toy Story 4 is not being rushed for the sake of it. Lasseter himself has always maintained that the studio focuses on story, and that that would always be the reason behind returning to previous worlds and characters.
