Marvel has released a sneak peek of its highly anticipated sequel to 2014’s smash hit film Guardians of the Galaxy.

Marvel Studios and writer/director James Gunn got it exactly right with their 2014 space-adventure title Guardians of the Galaxy, and ever since that time fans the world over have been patiently waiting for the film to receive a sequel. It didn’t take long for the superhero studio to greenlight Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 a month later, following the humongous success of the first film, which collected a nice little sum to the tune of $773 million worldwide.

The Guardians, led by Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill/Star Lord, were successful in banding together to save the galaxy from Ronan and his forces, whilst at the same finding their way into our hearts as lovable characters, exemplified best by buddy-cop duo Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and giant talking tree Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel).

Playing on the winning qualities of that first movie, the newly released teaser trailer for the sequel incorporates the good-feeling Awesome Mix Vol. 1 soundtrack alongside shots of the team’s familiar faces. It places Dave Bautista’s big-but-emotional Drax the Destroyer at the centre with some touching dialogue, which we later find to be from a deep bro-talk type conversation he’s having with Quill.

Official Synopsis and Trailer:

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 sees the return of our favourite aforementioned heroes, along with Zoe Saldana’s skilled combatant Gamora, Michael Rooker’s whistling Yondu and Karen Gillan’s Nebula, plus the arrival of Kurt Russell as Ego, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha and Sylvester Stallone who’s role is yet to be revealed.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set for a May 5th, 2017 release date.
