Disney and Lucasfilm are set to deliver their second offering in their new series of Star Wars films, following the success of last year’s The Force Awakens. The studio decided to bring on director Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Monsters) for its first spin-off movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which plants audiences back to a time just before the events of A New Hope take place, with the film’s plot revolving around the infamous planet-destroying weapon the Death Star.
Rogue One‘s previous trailers have gradually revealed more about the film’s story and characters, including Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso, Mads Mikkelsen’s Galen Erso, Ben Mendhelson’s Director Krennic And Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera. With the arrival of this final trailer however, we now have clarity on why Jyn Erso is selected for recruitment by the rebels, and also the team she’ll be working with. We also get to see a couple of shots of Darth Vader, including a scene involving the Sith Lord himself and Krennic, and the dynamic between the two seems really interesting.
The early reaction to the final trailer thus far has been overwhelmingly positive, with the general public flocking to watch new the video which has now been viewed over 12 million times, less than a week after its release. Star Wars is well and truly back, and fans are gearing up for what looks to be the most action packed instalment yet.
Most striking to us however, is the sheer beauty of the shots, thanks to the director, on display here. Breathtaking glimpses of the Death Star itself, accompanied by wide shots of incredibly vibrant and lively planets with epic battles and destruction taking place as far as the eye can see. Rogue One looks as though it will firmly place us back to the turbulent time before Luke Skywalker’s story begins, immersing audiences in the world we all know and love while also introducing a plethora of new characters, places and events.
