There’s a lot riding on Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad this summer as the studio’s DC film franchise continues to look for a definitively positive title. Both Man of Steel (2013) and the recent Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, directed by Zack Snyder, were only able to achieve mixed reactions amongst audiences and critics, which has left many wondering whether the much-sought-after Marvel template, of building a successful cinematic universe, will become a reality for the DC Extended Universe.
With the final cut of the film officially rated as a 12, Batman v Superman was a very dark and depressing affair, one that I personally did not feel I could let a child that young watch, but it seems that with Suicide Squad the darkness of characters, such as the maniacal Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), will be contrasted with the movie’s fun feel, with the promotional material, thus far, making it look like quite a thrilling ride.
The latest TV Spots, shown below, carry many of the snippets we’ve already seen, but do make a point to include some as yet unseen moments, plus some new dialogue from a handful of the movie’s incredible cast members. A couple of months ago we heard that reshoots were being done for Suicide Squad, of which director David Ayer stated they were undertaken to add “more action” to film, which we can believe. Reshoots are a fairly normal part of the filmmaking process, although in the case of movies such as last year’s incoherent Fantastic Four extensive reshoots are usually not a good sign. From looking at these new spots, we can see that WB has probably intervened here, wanting the Squad to please both fans and general audiences alike; there’s definitely an emphasis on the action.
As you can see, it doesn’t seem a though we will be looking at our watches or falling asleep during the film, and we really hope that is how it plays out. The Joker puts our current perspective on the film perfectly. “So Intense“.
