With Deadpool mania beginning to die down, after an outstanding theatrical run and gargantuan home video sales, the internet has begun to turn its attention to the prospect of the announced sequel, which is yet to receive an official title. Fox will now have full confidence in both director Tim Miller and star Ryan Reynolds going forward, and it’s very likely that Deadpool 2 will embed the character even further into the established X-Men cinematic world, with more mutants entering the fray.
With that, those who have seen Deadpool will be aware of the post-credits scene which confirmed that Cable will indeed be joining the Merch with a mouth in the next installment, leading many to speculate about who will be playing the time-travelling mutant.
Since the sequel was announced, notable tough-guy actors Dolph Lundgren (Expendables 3) and Stephen Lang (Avatar) have put themselves forward as Cable candidates, with legions of fans supporting both in their campaigns’ respectively. However, we now have another self-nominated contender for the part; Sons of Anarchy and Hellboy star Ron Perlman has recently taken to Instagram to publicly announce his interest in the role, posting images of himself next to illustrations of the character.
Perlman is correct in saying he has the look down, and of course there’s no argument that the guy can really act. But they don’t give away pivotal roles like this in movies for purely aesthetic reasons, it comes down to the filmmakers and whether or not they’re sure they’ve got the person, or one of a select few people, that they really want for the part. With Lundgren, Lang and Perlman now all vying for the position, and posting their thoughts publicly, the next few months could be very interesting, and we will absolutely let you know how the casting turns out when we do.
Do you like the idea of Ron Perlman playing Cable?
Deadpool 2 is yet to receive a release date.
