Gossip Girl star Blake Lively falls prey to a deadly shark in the new trailer for The Shallows.
Since her big breakout role in the hit American TV series Gossip Girl, Blake Lively has continued to develop as an actress, gradually finding her feet in a variety of different films ranging from 2012 crime drama Savages, to 2008’s superhero flick Green Lantern and the more recent Age of Adaline, which saw the 28-year-old take the lead role.
Now, Lively looks to further her acting chops by taking on an ambitious project in The Shallows, a film which is attempting to make sharks scary again.
Ever since Steven Spielberg‘s masterpiece Jaws was released in 1975, filmmakers the world over have tried, and failed, to recreate the levels of suspense and terror that Spielberg managed to achieve in the film, so it will be interesting to see if director Jaume Collet-Serra (Non-Stop, Orphan) can at least maintain a level of that feeling in this movie. We have to say that we are quite impressed with the trailer, which certainly seems to show the the film delivering on that front.
In the taut thriller The Shallows, when Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing on a secluded beach, she finds herself on the feeding ground of a great white shark. Though she is stranded only 200 yards from shore, survival proves to be the ultimate test of wills, requiring all of Nancy’s ingenuity, resourcefulness, and fortitude.
The Shallows surfs into cinemas August 12th.
