Sherlock Holmes is back. Only this time he looks like Ian McKellen.
The plot for Mr. Holmes, directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls), revolves around a retired Sherlock Holmes who seeks to solve his final great mystery concerning that of a beautiful woman, only this time it’s a personal matter. The film sees Ian McKellen (X-Men: Days of Future Past) take on the iconic role of the World’s most famous detective, last portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. in 2011’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
This film will mark the second time Condon and McKellen have worked together after their Biographical-Drama Gods and Monsters (1999) that saw Magneto as James Whale, the director of Frankenstein (1931), detailing the film-makers final days. The film was received well and made double it’s budget at the box office. With Mr. Holmes, the two now have another fine opportunity to see some more awards and nominations, Gandalf having been nominated for best actor after their 1999 offering.
Mr. Holmes opens in the UK on June 19th.
