First Look At Jason Momoa As Aquaman

Zack Snyder has presented us with another gritty character image for his expanding DC Cinematic Universe, this time by way of Arthur Curry a.k.a AQUAMAN.

Aquaman is not expected to play a significant role in the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and it was expected we would have to wait a few years to see the new king of Atlantis all suited up. But lucky for us ahead of some rumors that a teaser trailer would be on it’s way in the coming weeks, director Zack Snyder has given us a sneak peek at Momoa in costume as Aquaman.

Snyder tweeted the image today, using the hashtag #UniteTheSeven – a playful reference to the king of the seven seas and quite possibly the coming-together of the seven characters of the Justice League: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, The Flash and Green Lantern. Could this also be an indication that Momoa’s Aquaman will be the one to bring the League together?

The costume shows us that again, like with previous characters, the designers have blended the original comic book depictions with a sense of the real-world, and have examined the practicalities of the character’s attire as if he were existing in our world today. We can see particularly echos of the New-52 version of the Atlantean with the inclusion of some armor, most obvious on the left arm, and the all important kingly trident. Aquaman has less need for protective gear as he has super-strength, along with other powers, which is often displayed as being not too dissimilar from the likes of the incredibly strong Wonder Woman and Superman himself. We also see that Momoa is covered in tribal ink, which he had stated in earlier comments was a very important part of making the character come across almost like an islander who just so happens to be a badass fighter, as opposed to the green and orange blondie some people may think of.

So we’ve now seen four of our seven. The DCCU is looking so good and we really want things to work out for Warner Bros. this time.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016, followed by Justice League on November 17th, 2017, Aquaman on July 27th, 2018, and Justice League – Part 2
