‘American Sniper’ Sets Super Bowl Weekend Record

So Hannah Montanna/Miley Cyrus has been defeated (thank God) by none other than Clint Eastwood’s biographical action-drama American Sniper. The young star’s Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour set a benchmark high of $31.2 million when it premiered back in 2008. The bar has now been reset by the true story of Chris Kyle, played by Bradley Cooper, the guy with the most confirmed kills in US Military history, that has made a whopping $31.8 million this weekend. And that ain’t the only record it could break.

The film has taken in “Superhero movie numbers”, proclaimed a Senior Media Rentrack analyst, “People are hearing about this movie and talking about it”. He went on to say that target audiences must have gone to see it, “multiple times to get to these types of numbers”. And he’s not exaggerating either. If American Sniper continues it’s charge forward it may challenge the likes of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 for highest-grossing film of the year, which would be an unprecedented achievement considering it’s narrow audience, being a war-based, R-rated adult drama.

American Sniper has now made over $248 million at the US domestic box office. Not bad for it’s mere $58.8 million budget.Well played Mr Eastwood!
